Staff Development Days

Staff Development Days are an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day, reconnect as a team, and invest in the people who make your organization thrive. At Silver Linings International, we help organizations create meaningful, engaging development experiences tailored to their team’s unique needs, whether the focus is leadership, communication, emotional intelligence, trauma-informed practices, team connection, or building a healthier workplace culture. From interactive workshops to customized learning experiences, we can help you design a Staff Development Day that leaves your team feeling supported, inspired, and better equipped for the work ahead.

Thinking about your next event? Let’s explore what’s possible.

New York State Division of Disability Determinations

May-June 2025

Topic: Recipe for Renewal: Strengthening Connections & Self-Care Strategies
Audience: Disability Analysts, Supervisors, and Administrative Staff
Format: 4 In-Person Sessions (NYC, Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo)  + 1 Virtual Session

In partnership with leadership at the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) , Silver Linings International co-designed a customized, full-day professional development experience to meet the unique needs of their Division of Disability Determinations statewide team. Together, we created a space for over 500 staff to pause, reflect, and reconnect—with themselves and each other.

The result was Recipe for Renewal, a fun and restorative day rooted in trauma-informed principles, emotional intelligence, and peer support. Using a cooking-themed framework, participants explored real-life stressors and walked away with personalized “self-care menus,” practical tools for connection, and renewed motivation.

This wasn’t just a training—it was a signal of culture change, affirming that the emotional well-being of staff matters. The feedback was resounding:

“I left feeling more human, more connected—and more hopeful.”

“The best staff development day we’ve ever had.”

EISP Staff Professional Development Day

December 2025

Theme: The Bridges We Build: Connecting People, Purpose, and Programs

Audience: EISP staff across programs and bureaus

Format: 1 In-person event and 1 Virtual Interactive Staff Development Day

Silver Linings International facilitated an engaging staff development experience designed to strengthen connection, reduce silos, and help employees see how their individual roles contribute to a larger shared mission. Throughout the day, participants were invited to connect, reflect, laugh, learn, and explore practical ways to better support themselves and one another.

Grounded in trauma-informed practice, the day explored the realities of stress in the workplace, including common fight, flight, freeze, and fawn responses, secondary traumatic stress, emotional labor, and the importance of recognizing early warning signs. Participants also practiced grounding and self-regulation strategies they could bring back to their everyday work.

Connection was woven throughout the experience. Interactive exercises and breakout conversations encouraged staff to move beyond their usual roles, discover common ground, build relationships across teams, and recognize the strengths and resources already present within their workforce. Participants reflected on how stronger peer relationships can make collaboration easier, especially during stressful and demanding periods.

The day reinforced the value of:

  • Building authentic connections across programs and teams

  • Recognizing and responding to workplace stress with greater awareness and compassion

  • Strengthening peer support and resilience

  • Practicing intentional self-care and emotional regulation

  • Leveraging individual strengths to improve teamwork and collaboration

  • Creating a culture where people feel supported, valued, and connected to a shared purpose

More than a traditional training day, the experience created space for staff to reconnect with one another and with the purpose behind their work. Participants left with practical strategies, stronger connections, and a renewed commitment to supporting one another while continuing to build bridges across the organization.

EISP Staff Professional Development Day

December 2025

Theme: Leading with Emotional Intelligence: Balancing Empathy and Accountability

Audience: DDD Leadership and Supervisors

Format: 2 Day Virtual Interactive Leadership Development Day

Silver Linings International facilitated an interactive leadership development experience designed to help supervisors strengthen their emotional intelligence and navigate the complex realities of leading people. Building on concepts introduced during the broader Staff Development Day, this session took leaders deeper into the skills needed to manage competing priorities, navigate conflict and frustration, support employees, and remain effective when others are looking to them for answers.

Throughout the day, leaders explored how emotional intelligence directly influences supervisory practice. Participants reflected on their existing leadership strengths, envisioned the leaders they want to become, and identified opportunities for continued growth. Through self-assessment, discussion, interactive exercises, and breakout conversations, they examined how greater self-awareness can strengthen communication, relationships, decision-making, and responses to challenging situations.

A significant focus was placed on psychological safety and the role leaders play in creating environments where employees feel safe asking questions, acknowledging mistakes, sharing concerns, offering new ideas, and engaging in healthy disagreement. Leaders explored how psychological safety can exist alongside accountability, with clear expectations paired with respect, consistency, support, and trust.

The day reinforced the value of:

  • Strengthening emotional intelligence and self-awareness

  • Creating psychological safety within supervisory relationships

  • Balancing empathy, support, and accountability

  • Recognizing stress and trauma responses in the workplace

  • Navigating conflict with greater awareness and intention

  • Establishing communication agreements that support honest, respectful conversations

  • Building on individual leadership strengths while identifying opportunities for growth

Participants also explored practical communication agreements they could adapt for their own teams, including listening without interruption, showing empathy and compassion, respecting differing perspectives, owning mistakes, pausing when conversations become tense, and returning to difficult conversations when both people are better prepared to engage.

More than a leadership training, the day created an opportunity for supervisors to reflect on how they want to lead. Participants left with practical tools to strengthen relationships, approach difficult conversations with greater confidence, and create workplace environments where both people and performance can thrive.
