Between 2007 and 2021, suicide rates among individuals aged 10–24 surged by 62%, escalating from 6.8 to 11.0 deaths per 100,000. This alarming trend disproportionately affects LGBTQ+ youth, BIPOC communities, and those in foster care. Notably, suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people aged 10 to 14 and the third leading cause among those aged 15 to 24.

Compounding this crisis, recent assaults on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives have created more hostile environments, stripping away essential support systems that foster belonging and mental well-being. The rollback of DEI programs has been linked to increased feelings of isolation and anxiety among marginalized youth, exacerbating mental health challenges.
As funding for critical programs diminishes, the responsibility falls on adult allies and youth advocates to bridge the gap. Silver Linings International offers two pivotal programs designed to address these challenges:
1. Trauma-Informed Youth Engagement Workshops (Starting May 22nd):
Equip participants with tools for authentic youth engagement.
Provide strategies to initiate youth-led programs without tokenizing or retraumatizing.
Develop skills to cultivate safe spaces that promote resilience and leadership.
2. Launch My Idea™ Academy (Starting July 23rd):
An intensive boot camp offering an 8-step planning process for involving youth and young adults in events and activities.
Focus on mitigating risks and enhancing benefits for the intended audience.
Ideal for projects like youth councils, photovoice projects, and mental wellness campaigns.
We cannot afford to lose another young life to preventable despair. By engaging in these programs, you become the ally they need—before it’s too late.
