Advanced Practice for Leaders: Cultivating Emotional Intelligence

Cultivating emotional intelligence — the ability to understand and manage our own emotions and tune in to others’ emotions — can provide a crucial advantage for leaders as they navigate challenges and work toward success.

Leaders with high emotional intelligence can foster a positive and productive workplace culture, improve communication and decision-making, and, ultimately, drive business success.

On the other hand, leaders with low emotional intelligence can struggle in several areas, which can have negative impacts on their teams and themselves.

Teams may experience low morale and engagement, as well as high levels of conflict and turnover due to poor communication, lack of empathy, and ineffective management. Leaders may face difficulties building trust and rapport with others, making it hard to motivate and inspire their teams.

Low emotional intelligence can also lead to poor decision-making and risk-taking behavior, affecting the overall success of the organization.

And, on a personal level, leaders with low emotional intelligence may experience stress, burnout, and limited career advancement opportunities, because interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate complex relationships are crucial for leadership success.

Understanding and developing emotional intelligence, then, is a critical skill. By the end of this course, you’ll have a clear understanding of the components of emotional intelligence, an idea of what areas you personally want to improve, a plan to make those improvements, and a self-care routine that protects your emotional labor.

This course will guide you through the process in four modules.
